History

J.B. Allen Warehouse Lofts

In 1936 the J.B. Allen & Company established a warehouse plumbing business on the edge of Kitchener’s downtown core, across from the train station and accessible to two rail lines. For the ensuing 83 years this site housed, under three different ownerships, warehouse plumbing activities serving the needs of KW’s businesses.

By 2010 the warehouse had closed and the building, not unlike The Tannery and Breithaupt Block, was destined for adaptive re-use development. The development principals of Michael Elliott and Paul Snyder having established “The Allen Building Inc.” to undertake their efforts, purchased the site and over the next two years painstakingly rehabilitated and transformed the land and building into a project providing entrepreneurs the infrastructure and ecosystem within brick, beam and hardwood office lofts.

The building’s suites are all unique with features that include hardwood floors, open joist wood ceilings of heights between 8’ – 22’, abundant natural light through operable windows, private washrooms, direct exterior entrances, corporate signage and each suite is pre-wired with CAT5e high-speed cable for communications.

On the outside, there is tenant bicycle and car parking on site; walking distance to GO and VIA; electronic after-hours access to common areas and a dedicated property manager who resides in another of our buildings two blocks away.

And notwithstanding a high quality project in the Breithaupt Warehouse District location a few blocks from the forthcoming Google KW home, what differentiates the J.B. Allen Warehouse Lofts from other projects is that the Owner/Developers act as advocates on behalf of their tenants fostering a community, providing connections and encouraging the growth of their businesses.

We house entrepreneurs

“While it may appear we are in the real estate business, we are more venture capitalist, as we place bets on entrepreneurs and business models.”
